Visit Sarasota County (VSC) has been recognized by several national organizations for its efforts in attracting meetings and events to the region. The organization was named a 2025 Readers’ Choice by ConventionSouth, a publication that focuses on event planning in the southern United States. This year, more than 7,000 voters participated in the selection process, marking the competition’s highest engagement so far. VSC has now received this award nine times since 2001.
In December, VSC also received a Platinum Choice Award from Smart Meetings, which provides information about destinations and venues. The award was based on votes from readers who have experience attending events at nominated sites. This recognition places VSC alongside larger Florida destinations such as Kissimmee and Miami. Additionally, The Ritz-Carlton, Sarasota was recognized in the hotel category.
The Hospitality Sales & Marketing Association International (HSMAI) presented VSC with two bronze awards during its 69th annual Adrian Awards. These honors were given for VSC’s “Support the 941” hurricane recovery campaign and its Indicators & Insights Summit. The Adrian Awards highlight achievements in travel marketing across various categories including advertising and public relations.
“Being recognized by some of the top meetings associations in the country reflects something we never take for granted – trust,” said Erin Duggan, President and CEO of Visit Sarasota County. “That trust is earned through strong results and strong relationships, and it pays dividends far beyond a successful event, generating Tourist Development Tax paid by visitors and reinvested back into our community. We also share this recognition with the sales teams at our hotels and sports venues – it’s their partnerships and expertise, paired with ours, that turn handshakes into room nights.”
Throughout the year, VSC works to attract different types of events to support local hotels and strengthen Sarasota’s economy even outside peak seasons. In fiscal year 2025, VSC’s incentive program provided $28,000 to assist hotels in booking meetings and conventions. Efforts such as international outreach and creative collaborations—like an “Art Car” partnership—help maintain Sarasota’s profile abroad. Revenue generated from group business contributes to funding local beaches, arts programs, and sports facilities through collaboration with area hotels and venues.
