The U.S. Census Bureau has released preliminary data from the 2024 Annual Survey of School System Finances, offering an early look at public school spending per pupil for pre-K through 12th grade. The data also include state-level summaries of revenues and expenditures for the 2024 fiscal year.

The report notes that fiscal years differ among school systems, and the survey data are not adjusted to match a uniform fiscal calendar across all districts. These initial findings are subject to revision before the final release.

According to the Census Bureau, “The preliminary data are subject to change before the final release. The Census Bureau plans to release the final FY 2024 Annual Survey of School System Finances data for all 50 states and the District of Columbia in 2026.”
