The U.S. Census Bureau released new Business Formation Statistics for March 2026, according to an April 8 announcement. The data provide updated information on new business applications and formations across the United States and Puerto Rico.

The Business Formation Statistics are intended to offer timely and frequent insights into trends in business creation. These statistics are developed through research collaboration between the Census Bureau and economists from the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System, the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta, the University of Maryland, and the University of Notre Dame.

Each month, a full dataset is published containing all twelve series: four application series and eight formation series. The monthly release includes statistics at national, regional, and state levels. Additionally, four monthly business applications series are reported for Puerto Rico as part of this standard product. Both seasonally adjusted and unadjusted data are available in these releases.

There was no accompanying news release with this announcement; only a tip sheet was provided by the agency.

The ongoing publication of these statistics supports policymakers, researchers, and businesses in understanding patterns in entrepreneurship and economic activity throughout different regions.
