The U.S. Census Bureau has released its Business Formation Statistics (BFS) for August 2025. The BFS offers monthly data on new business applications and formations across the United States, covering national, regional, and state levels. The release includes both seasonally adjusted and nonseasonally adjusted data.

Developed in partnership with economists from the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System, the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta, the University of Maryland, and the University of Notre Dame, the BFS is considered a standard product for tracking business activity.

In addition to nationwide statistics, the Census Bureau has also published Monthly Puerto Rico Business Applications. This experimental dataset tracks four series on business applications in Puerto Rico using methods consistent with those applied to U.S. BFS releases.
