The U.S. Census Bureau has published updated statistics on state-to-state migration flows and place of birth for 2024. The new data, released on January 21, 2026, are derived from the 2024 American Community Survey (ACS) 1-year estimates.
The information includes a table package with two main components. The first provides estimates of how many people moved between the 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and to the United States from abroad. The second details where current residents of these areas were born.
These statistics offer insight into patterns of geographic mobility across the country. According to the Census Bureau, “Geographic mobility refers to the movement of people within and across boundaries.”
The release does not include a full news release but is being distributed as a tip sheet.
