The U.S. Census Bureau has released the 2023 Business Dynamics Statistics (BDS), providing updated information on key measures such as job creation and destruction, establishment births and deaths, and firm startups and shutdowns across the United States economy. The BDS is an annual series covering data from 1978 through 2023.

This dataset is available through the BDS website, the Census API, and the BDS Explorer tool. The explorer offers access to the full dataset with options for visualizing information using line charts, bar charts, and thematic maps. Users can use its dashboard to build custom tables and charts for organizing and comparing business dynamics metrics.

More details about this release can be found on the BDS and BDS Explorer websites.
