Angel Nicolas, a leading agent at Compass with over $200 million in sales during the past year, has left the brokerage to join Serhant. State licensing records confirm that Nicolas’ license was transferred to Serhant on Monday.

Nicolas, who previously played professional baseball, joined Compass in 2019 and was recognized as one of its top 100 agents for 2024. He stated that most members of his 18-person team are also transitioning to Serhant.

Since starting his real estate career in 2016, Nicolas has closed nearly $2 billion in sales. His focus areas include Coconut Grove, Gables Estates, Pinecrest, Ponce Davis, and Southwest Ranches.

“It’s been a tough move to be honest because I am quite happy with Compass,” Nicolas said. He added that Ryan Serhant, founder and CEO of Serhant, had been in discussions with him for three years.

Nicolas expressed enthusiasm about establishing a nationwide luxury division at Serhant. “Him [Serhant] and I have been talking about how we can become the No. 1 team in Miami,” he said. “We both want to be No. 1 in all of Florida. That’s the plan.”

In 2023, Nicolas brokered both sides of a $19.3 million penthouse sale at Grove at Grand Bay—a record for Coconut Grove condo transactions.

A member of his team, William Abreu—also a former professional baseball player—represented the buyer when streamer Adin Ross purchased an estate in Davie earlier this year for $25.5 million, setting another local record.

Nicolas commented on South Florida’s luxury market stability and continued demand for turnkey homes. He suggested demand could increase if Zohran Mamdani becomes mayor of New York City.

“The homes sitting on the market need a lot of work or are teardowns. Your special homes in special neighborhoods are setting records,” he said. Recently, he represented the seller in a $6.3 million transaction at 7425 Southwest 56th Avenue in Miami—a record for High Pines.

According to Nicolas, Serhant plans to open offices in Coconut Grove, Coral Gables and Miami Beach as part of its ongoing expansion efforts across South Florida.

The addition of Nicolas is seen as another step forward for Ryan Serhant’s brokerage as it grows its presence in the region; earlier this year Gary Pohrer joined from Douglas Elliman to help lead the Palm Beach office.

Serhant began operating in South Florida after opening an office in Delray Beach last year and now counts around 260 agents statewide—including Tyler Cameron along with founding agents Mariana Niro and Chris Prakas—according to state licensing data. Yasser Ponce leads expansion efforts for Serhant’s Miami operations.

Compass declined requests for comment.
