Stephen Garito, a resident of Palm Beach, shared his experience as a stroke survivor in recognition of World Stroke Day. He expressed gratitude to the first responders who assisted him during the medical emergency.
“It was scary, very scary,” Stephen Garito said about the event.
Maria Garito, who was present at the time, recalled recognizing symptoms based on information she had previously seen on television. She explained that she remembered the acronym F-A-S-T, which stands for face drooping, arm weakness or numbness, slurred speech, and time to call 911 immediately.
“I had a feeling it was something I had seen on TV, the acronym for having a stroke,” Maria Garito said.
The couple’s story highlights the importance of public awareness regarding stroke symptoms and timely action in seeking emergency help.
