Palm Beach Gardens Medical Center has been recognized by Healthgrades as one of America’s 50 Best Hospitals for Cardiac Surgery, making it the only hospital in northern Palm Beach County to earn this distinction. The recognition places the facility among the top 10% of hospitals nationwide for cardiac care and includes the Cardiac Surgery Excellence Award.

The hospital also received five-star ratings in several areas: valve surgery, spinal fusion, carotid surgery, stroke care, and treatment of respiratory failure.

“We are proud to be recognized by Healthgrades for our achievements in quality care, including for the heart.  We were the first hospital to complete an open-heart surgery in the county in the 1980s and we have continued that tradition of heart care excellence ever since, which is reflected in these awards,” said Palm Beach Gardens Medical Center CEO, Erik Cazares. “These awards are patient and team driven.  We are grateful for the community’s trust in our incredible team to continue to deliver quality outcomes.”

Healthgrades evaluates more than 4,500 hospitals each year using risk-adjusted mortality and complication rates for over 30 common conditions and procedures. These measures help identify top-performing hospitals across key specialties such as cardiac services. The organization aims to give patients information about hospital performance so they can make informed decisions regarding their healthcare options through resources like healthgrades.com.

Alana Biggers, MD, MPH, medical advisor at Healthgrades stated: “Healthgrades’ specialty awards identify the nation’s top-performing hospitals in key service areas, helping consumers find high quality care tailored to their specific needs. We’re proud to recognize Palm Beach Gardens Medical Center for its consistently superior outcomes in key service areas, including cardiac care.”

According to a recent analysis by Healthgrades covering data from 2022 through 2024, if all hospitals performed at a level similar to five-star facilities during that period, an estimated average of more than 230,000 lives could have been saved and nearly 157,000 complications avoided among Medicare patients.
