Palm Beach Atlantic University hosted a Wordship event on September 23, focusing on the themes of grief and loss. The event, designed to foster open communication and curiosity among students, faculty, and staff, began with a dance performance choreographed by Aliya Rajnic and performed by members of the university’s dance program. The performance aimed to depict the human experience of grief.
A panel discussion followed, featuring Jackie Kendall, president of Power to Grow Ministries; Dr. Rose Vassel, director of counseling at Palm Beach Atlantic University; and Aliya Rajnic, who is also a stage manager, staff member, and alumna of the university. The panelists shared insights on various approaches to processing grief, addressing the different aspects of loss and methods for healing.
The event included breakout sessions, where attendees discussed the topic in smaller groups, and concluded with a Q&A session in which panelists answered additional questions from participants.
During the discussion, Kendall spoke about the importance of spiritual wellness and suggested relying on scripture and faith in God’s plan. Dr. Vassel highlighted the value of seeking support from both community members and professional counselors when facing painful experiences. Rajnic emphasized the role of physical expression through dance as a means of processing grief when words are insufficient.
The university noted that events like Wordship are intended to support both academic and spiritual life by providing a space where difficult topics can be addressed constructively. The event aimed to remind participants of the importance of communication, both verbal and non-verbal, in the healing process.
