Mayors from cities in North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee have declared December 12, 2025, as “Share the Warmth Day” to encourage support for a program that helps residents pay their energy bills. The cities participating include Charlotte, Fayetteville, Greensboro, Wilmington in North Carolina; Greenville in South Carolina; and Nashville in Tennessee.
The Share the Warmth program is run by Piedmont Natural Gas and provides emergency financial assistance to people struggling to pay their energy bills. The help is available regardless of whether the customer uses propane, electricity, or natural gas.
Piedmont Natural Gas has coordinated with mayors across its service area to highlight the need for community support of the program during colder months. Brian Weisker, senior vice president and president of Piedmont Natural Gas, said: “Piedmont’s Share the Warmth program has supported our most vulnerable neighbors since 2003. We chose December 12, or 12/12, as ‘Share the Warmth Day’ to remind us that for no more than $12 a year, each of us can make a meaningful difference. And if you need help today, Share the Warmth funds are available. Too many families face difficult choices when the weather turns cold. We want anyone who needs assistance with their energy bills to know: Piedmont is here to keep you warm and supported, all year long.”
Customers can contribute through several methods: signing up for Piedmont’s Round Up program (which rounds up monthly bills to the nearest dollar), visiting piedmontng.com/ShareTheWarmth to enroll or donate directly, filling out a form on their bill statement, or calling Piedmont at 800-752-7504. Non-customers can also donate via the website.
All contributions are distributed through local nonprofit partners within each donor’s community and go directly to those in need.
Piedmont Natural Gas is a subsidiary of Duke Energy and serves over 1.2 million customers across North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee.
