IAM District 19 President and Directing General Chairman Reece Murtagh, along with TCU/IAM Vice-President Nick Peluso, visited Capitol Hill to advocate for the No Tax on Overtime for All Workers Act (H.R. 5475). The bill was introduced by Representatives Nicole Malliotakis (R-N.Y.) and Emilia Sykes (D-Ohio).

Murtagh and Peluso joined legislative staff from the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM) and the Transportation Communications Union (TCU) to thank the bill’s sponsors and discuss strategies for passing the legislation before the next tax season.

The proposed legislation seeks to expand the current overtime tax exemption to include airline, rail, and other workers who are exempt from the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA). If enacted, it would extend overtime tax relief to these groups, similar to what is already available to many American workers.

Supporters are urging Congress to ensure that railroad and airline workers receive the same overtime tax deduction as others.
