Local entrepreneurs Brian and Elizabeth McCadie have introduced a new glass bottom boat tour in Islamorada, Florida Keys. The vessel, named Transparensea, operates out of Robbie’s Marina and offers both day and night trips for visitors interested in exploring the region’s marine life.

Brian McCadie, who has experience as a U.S. Coast Guard fishing charter captain, developed the idea to provide a different kind of experience in the area. Elizabeth McCadie supported the project, drawing on her background working at Robbie’s Marina. After researching and planning, they launched Transparensea to offer an alternative way for guests to view underwater environments.

The 46-foot open-air boat is equipped with 16 window wells, seating for up to 30 passengers, restroom facilities, and Seakeeper technology designed to minimize seasickness. Its most notable feature is an underwater lighting system that enables nighttime tours—reportedly making it the first glass bottom boat in the United States to operate after dark. Passengers can observe marine animals such as sharks, turtles, coral formations, and squid illuminated by these lights.

“Our goal was to create something families could enjoy after dark,” says Brian McCadie. “The lights make such a difference, and the sea life is more active at night—this is truly a one-of-a-kind experience in The Keys.”

Tours include narrated visits to coral sites like Cheeca Rocks, Caloosa Rocks, and Alligator Reef. These locations are chosen to give participants close views of local marine ecosystems while steering clear of crowded boating spots.

Transparensea runs tours every day except Thanksgiving and Christmas Day. Daytime trips depart at noon and 3 p.m., while night excursions leave about 20 minutes after sunset. More details or reservations can be found at www.glassbottomtour.com or by calling 305-21-GLASS.
