The Florida Public Service Commission (FPSC) has unanimously elected Commissioner Gabriella Passidomo Smith as its next Chairman. Her two-year term will begin on January 2, 2026. Passidomo Smith was first appointed to the FPSC in 2021 and her current term extends through 2027.
“I am deeply honored by the trust my colleagues have placed in me to serve as Chairman,” said Chairman-Elect Passidomo Smith. “The Commission’s work directly impacts millions of Floridians, and I look forward to leading with transparency, accountability, and a steadfast commitment to ensuring reliable service and fair rates as our state continues to grow.”
Passidomo Smith is active in national regulatory circles. She is a member of the National Association of Regulatory Utility Commissioners (NARUC) and serves on its Board of Directors for a four-year term. She represents the Southeastern region on the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission/NARUC Federal and State Current Issues Collaborative, participates in NARUC’s Committee on Electricity, Committee on Gas, Gas Subcommittee on Pipeline Safety, and Task Force on Gas Planning. In these roles, she helps shape policy discussions about energy reliability, safety, and infrastructure planning nationwide. Additionally, she was recently named First Vice President of the SEARUC Executive Committee.
Before joining the FPSC as a commissioner, Passidomo Smith worked in its Office of General Counsel where she provided legal analysis and recommendations related to utility regulation.
Her academic background includes graduating cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of Florida. She earned her Juris Doctor from Washington and Lee University School of Law and holds an MBA from Florida State University. Passidomo Smith is also a member of the Florida Bar.
