The Florida Public Service Commission (FPSC) has approved new charges for Florida City Gas’s (FCG) 2026 Safety, Access, and Facility Enhancement (SAFE) Program. The decision is aimed at maintaining the safety and reliability of natural gas service in the region.

The SAFE Program focuses on key infrastructure improvements. These include replacing aging gas mains, removing higher-risk “orange pipe,” relocating facilities to more accessible areas, and updating outdated equipment. In 2025, FCG replaced 31.7 miles of mains and 1,244 services overall. Additionally, 18 miles of mains and 1,185 services were specifically tied to orange pipe replacement.

Starting January 1, 2026, monthly SAFE charges will increase. Customers using under 6,000 therms per year will see their charge rise from $4.66 to $8.70 per month. Those using over 6,000 therms annually will see an increase from $7.77 to $11.01 per month.

According to FCG’s plans for the coming year, the company expects to invest about $108 million in system improvements during 2026 as part of its ongoing effort to enhance safety and service reliability.

FCG serves approximately 116,000 residential, commercial, and industrial customers across Miami-Dade, Broward, St. Lucie, Indian River, Brevard, Palm Beach, Hendry, and Martin Counties.
