Florida is marking Lineworker Appreciation Day on August 26, 2025, to recognize the contributions of lineworkers who maintain and restore electric service across the state. The Florida Public Service Commission (FPSC) is encouraging residents to acknowledge the essential work performed by these professionals.
“As Florida continues to strengthen its energy grid and storm readiness, we must remember that lineworkers are the frontline heroes keeping power safe and reliable,” said FPSC Chairman Mike La Rosa. “We are grateful every day for the men and women who risk their lives to ensure Floridians have the essential service of electricity.”
Lineworkers in Florida are trained to operate safely under hazardous conditions such as severe weather and storm damage. Their responsibilities often require them to travel outside their communities, assisting with power restoration efforts in areas affected by storms nationwide. Across the United States, lineworkers help maintain over 5.5 million miles of distribution lines supplying electricity to homes and businesses.
The establishment of Lineworker Appreciation Day dates back to a 2012 decision by the Florida House of Representatives, which sought to honor those who risk their safety daily in support of reliable electric service throughout Florida.
