The Florida Medical Association (FMA) is inviting county and specialty medical societies to nominate physicians for its reference committees. The deadline for nominations is 5 p.m. ET on Friday, May 9.
Reference committees are made up of at least five voting members from the FMA House of Delegates (HOD), excluding current FMA officers and Board of Governors (BOG) members. According to the FMA, “Committee members are selected by the FMA Speaker and Vice Speaker to conduct open hearings on proposed resolutions before they are presented to the full HOD at Annual Meeting.”
After receiving feedback on resolutions, committee members deliberate privately before making group decisions. Their recommendations are then presented in a detailed report to the HOD. As stated by the organization, “A resolution that passes the House and is adopted by the BOG becomes FMA policy.”
Delegates will be able to submit online testimony regarding any properly filed resolution starting Monday, June 23, at 9 a.m. ET until Thursday, July 3, at 9 p.m. ET. The process requires delegates who submit testimony to indicate their support or opposition for each resolution.
The reference committees will meet in executive session during the week of Monday, July 7, to finalize their reports. These reports will be published online ahead of the Annual Meeting set for Friday, July 25. Delegates can debate committee recommendations during in-person hearings scheduled for Saturday, July 26.
