The Florida Medical Association (FMA) is organizing a series of educational webinars and events aimed at supporting women physicians. One such event, “From Barely Surviving to Thriving,” is scheduled as a Continuing Medical Education (CME) webinar on Wednesday, Feb. 26, at noon Eastern Time. This initiative comes from the FMA’s Women in Medicine Committee.

“I’m so appreciative that the FMA Board of Governors (BOG) created a Women in Medicine Committee to support the needs of our women physician members,” said Rebekah Bernard, MD, an FMA BOG member who serves as committee chair. “Studies show that women physicians have a higher rate of burnout than our male colleagues, and of even greater concern, a 24-percent greater chance of suicide than the general population.”

Dr. Bernard stated that the FMA remains committed to helping women physicians in their professional practice.

Several upcoming events are planned for women in medicine. On Friday, April 4, the University of Florida College of Medicine-Jacksonville will host the Women in Medicine & Science Conference at the Mariott Jacksonville. Registration details will be provided in future editions of FMA News.

Additionally, the 2025 South Florida Women Physicians Retreat is set for Saturday, May 3, at the Hyatt House in Naples. The retreat is organized by several regional medical societies and will include presentations, group discussions, lunch, and an evening reception.
