Today, Commissioner Anastasios Kamoutsas and the Florida Department of Education marked the achievements of 2025. The agency welcomed Kamoutsas as its new commissioner this year and emphasized its commitment to providing all students with access to quality educational opportunities.
“All students deserve the best education possible. Under the leadership of Governor Ron DeSantis, Florida remains the most student-centered state in the nation,” said Commissioner of Education Anastasios Kamoutsas. “I am proud of the many accomplishments made this year and look forward to continuing this important work in 2026.”
The Florida Department of Education is part of Florida’s state government structure and oversees public education and related programs across the state, according to its official website. The department serves about 2.8 million students in 4,471 public schools and 28 colleges at 175 locations statewide. Its mission is to improve student proficiency through an integrated system that offers learning and research opportunities valued by students, parents, and communities.
In addition to traditional education, the department provides workforce training, apprenticeships, and support for individuals with disabilities to promote economic self-sufficiency. These efforts contribute to community development throughout Florida.
The department operates throughout the state, delivering services via public schools and colleges in various regions.
