Florida Atlantic University (FAU) is welcoming a record 40 National Merit Scholars for the current semester. Of these, 19 are returning students and 21 are new to FAU. The total number of scholars is the highest in the university’s history, while the group of new scholars represents the second-largest incoming class on record.
“We are elated to welcome our incoming, exceptionally talented National Merit Scholars as they join their peers at Florida Atlantic University,” said Mary Ann Gosser Esquilín, Ph.D., assistant dean of the FAU Honors and Scholars Program. “We look forward to shining a spotlight on their successes as they pursue research opportunities and continue to excel in their chosen academic fields.”
The cohort includes 25 students from Florida, with five alumni from FAU High School among the newly admitted scholars.
The National Merit Scholarship Program has recognized high school students for academic achievement since 1955. It is managed by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation, an independent nonprofit organization that does not receive government funding.
High school students across the United States enter this program by taking the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT), which screens over 1.3 million entrants annually and sets entry requirements for participation.
