Florida Atlantic University’s Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institute has announced the schedule for its 2026 “John & Barbara Ferrera Ocean Science Lecture Series.” The annual series will begin with an introduction to Florida’s new Office of Ocean Economy, presented by James M. Sullivan, Ph.D., executive director of FAU Harbor Branch.

The lectures will take place at 4 p.m. in the Johnson Marine Education Center Auditorium on the Fort Pierce campus. The events are free and open to the public, but advance registration is required. A single registration grants access to all lectures in the season.

According to FAU Harbor Branch, these events offer community members a chance to hear about recent discoveries and innovations in marine science from researchers and engineers involved in the work. Each lecture will be followed by a question-and-answer session and an opportunity for attendees to meet the speaker.

“This year’s Ocean Science Lecture Series will showcase the breadth of marine science research underway at Florida Atlantic,” said Sullivan. “The work our research faculty and scientists do every day has a genuine impact on our ocean economy and our future.”

For those unable to attend in person, all lectures will be streamed live on the FAU Harbor Branch website, where recordings of previous events are also available online. More information about registration can be found at https://www.fau.edu/hboi/osls.
