Duke Energy has launched a new initiative called ‘12 Days of Savings’ to help customers manage higher energy use during the holiday season. The program provides daily tips from December 1 through December 12, offering simple and low-cost solutions aimed at reducing electricity bills as temperatures drop.
“During the holidays, energy use naturally increases due to cooler temperatures and shorter days,” said Kendal Bowman, Duke Energy’s North Carolina president. “Our goal is to make it easy for customers to take small steps that improve energy efficiency and deliver real savings.”
The schedule includes practical advice such as replacing outdoor and indoor lighting with LED bulbs, adjusting thermostats, using sunlight for heating during the day, sealing air leaks, setting water heaters to 120 degrees, insulating pipes, installing low-flow showerheads, checking refrigerator seals, changing ceiling fan settings for winter, and turning off fans when not in use.
Duke Energy also encourages customers to participate in its free Home Energy Assessment program. This service helps identify ways to reduce energy consumption and offers free products like weather stripping and caulking. Participants receive a personalized report with expert advice on saving energy and may qualify for rebates on efficiency upgrades.
