A trust connected to the Bezos family has requested approval from Coral Gables officials to upgrade a dock at their Journey’s End compound. Companies associated with the Bezos Family Foundation bought two neighboring waterfront homes in 2022 for a combined $78 million. The limited liability companies were linked to Amazon founder Jeff Bezos’ late mother, Jackie, and his stepfather, Mike. The purchases included an 8,713-square-foot home at 9501 Journeys End Lane for $44 million and a 12,829-square-foot mansion at 9475 Journeys End Road for $34 million. Together, these properties cover more than four acres in the gated Coral Gables community.

Forgotten Fountain LLC submitted an application seeking variances that would permit a boatlift to extend 54 feet and two inches—over twice the currently allowed distance—and allow mooring piles to be set 67 feet and four inches from the bank, nearly three times farther out than current regulations permit. The city’s board of adjustment is scheduled to review these requests on Monday. The board of architects previously approved them in July.

According to the application, the existing dock will remain in place. It states that moving the boatlift and mooring piles closer to shore is not possible due to protected mangrove trees along the shoreline.

The application includes approval from the Journey’s End Homeowners Association, with association president Louis Wolfson III signing off on it.

Jackie Bezos died in August at age 78. She and her husband Mike had previously owned a home in Miami’s Palmetto Bay until 1984, two years after Jeff Bezos graduated from Miami Palmetto Senior High School.

Mike Bezos is reportedly planning a significant expansion of his family office Aurora Borealis; Valeria Alberola was recently hired as CEO, according to reporting by The Wall Street Journal.

Jeff Bezos has acquired additional waterfront property in Indian Creek Village—an area known for high-profile residents such as Jared and Ivanka Trump, Tom Brady, Jeff Soffer, and Carl Icahn—and is constructing an estate there.
